Silver is a wonderful metal for jewelry, it's beautiful, it's affordable and there is a huge variety of sterling silver jewelry out there. However, sooner or later, sterling silver will tarnish. And don't you hate it when that happens? Your once bright and beautiful jewelry changes colors and becomes yellowish or even black, and simply looks old and tired. I bet everyone has some tarnished silver jewelry laying around at home, and you just don't want to wear it anymore.
You may not know it, but there is a very easy way to clean tarnished silver at home!
All you need is boiling water, a heat resistant bowl, aluminum foil and baking soda. Please, be careful and don't use it for items with crystals, plastics, or delicate gems. Those might be damaged by boiling water.
It's so simple, and the results will surprise you!
Cleaning silver in a few simple steps:
Line the bowl with aluminum foil – shiny side up!!!
Place your jewelry, or other sterling silver items in it, sprinkle some baking soda on the silver (2-3 spoons), pour hot water in the bowl to cover the jewelry, wait a few seconds, and you can already see the results, it works that fast!
If your jewelry are very badly tarnished, give it a few minutes, move it around a little bit in the bowl with a wooden utensil.
If you still have some tarnish left, you can add more soda and water, and even rub the tarnished spot with baking soda between your fingers. You can see the results in the photos, the tarnished area is bright and shiny again. See the photos below:
Rinse the jewelry with clean water, let it dry on a towel, and then wipe it with a polishing cloth or other soft cloth.
And now for the before and after photos:
What a difference, don't you just love it?
